Daily Bible Verse

Matthew 5:43-45
“[Love for Enemies] “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.”

As a ministry of Oak Ridge United Methodist Church the Christian beliefs are an essential component in the care that we provide.  Beginning with our littlest lambs, we believe in teaching Christ’s love.  Our toddlers are read Bible stories, learn easy Christian songs, learn that blessings occur at every meal, and are taught about God’s beautiful creation in all that they see.

Learning how to interact with other children is a big part of each day for the toddlers, but they are also busy discovering a lot more about themselves, too.  Our approach enables children to gain self-confidence and independence as they grow.  Our teachers plan activities that are designed to enhance your child’s growth and prepare him/her for the next stage of development.

We keep documented assessments on your child’s development.  We develop weekly lesson plans to introduce new activities and learning experiences.  The lesson plan is posted in the class room.

Ms. Jessica
Hello, everyone!  I am Ms. Jessica and I am delighted to be your child's new teacher.  I truly look forward to learning more about each and every child.  My goal is to create in our classroom an atmosphere ideal for continuous learning opportunities.  We will have a circle time daily and complement our letter of the week and theme of the week with various art activities.  You can expect us to do some cooking activities and science experiments too.

I plan to keep a parent/teacher communication notebook on top of our classroom cubbies.  Feel free to leave a dated message inside the notebook; I will be sure to respond promptly.  Because I will only be in the classroom from 7:30-2:00, I may not be able to communicate orally with each parent daily.  The notebook seems a fitting method for addressing questions or concerns from parents whom I may not see on a regular basis.

Reminders:
  • Please make sure you have a seasonably appropriate change of clothes for your child.
  • Please do not send your child in pull-ups.
  • Everyone should wear underwear.
  • Sunscreen must be signed in as a 12-month medication.
  • Backpacks, blankets, and soft animals are welcome, but they will need to stay in your child's cubby until nap time.
  • Please leave toys and food at home.
  • For your child's safety, please do not send him/her in flip-flops.
We always appreciate donations to our classroom.  Colored items for sorting are fantastic.  Snacks like M&M's and skittles are perfect.

Just a bit about myself:
I have been at the Weekday School for about six years.  It's like my second home!  My husband and I have a Kindergartner, Connor, and a two year-old, Tasker Brett.  I am currently pursuing my master's in English at UNCG.  I love, love, love to read, but I enjoy nothing more than spending time with my wonderful family.

Again, please do not hesistate to ask questions.  Effective communication will help us succeed in creating the best learning environment for each child.  Thanks for all that you do!

January News

Greetings and Happy New Year to you all!

I hope everyone has enjoyed a fabulous holiday season!

I am very excited to get back into the swing of things in the classroom. We said goodbye to Tristan and Hannah—they have moved up to Ms. Sara and Ms. Maghan’s class. We welcome our new friends, Emma and Jillian. We are so happy to have you, girls! This month we will begin learning a letter a week as we did before the holidays. We will focus on: J, K, L, and M. Our themes are: Winter Weather, Snowmen, and Dental Hygiene. I would like to have a McDonald’s lunch for the letter M on Friday, January 27. More information to come.

We will continue to have reading bags each week. Please return them by Friday. I would also like to start show-n-share for every child. On each Wednesday please allow your child to bring an item (preferably not a toy) beginning with the letter of the week.

As you may know, the Weekday School is preparing for our swiftly approaching Stars evaluation. Here are some things we could use in our classroom: old office supplies (typewriter, phones, keyboards, etc.), old hair dryer, old curling iron, male-specific clothing (ties, hats, shoes, etc.), profession-specific items for pretend play (cash register, nurse’s/doctor’s uniforms, etc.), miniature items for fantasy play (doll house). If you’re cleaning out your offices or closets, please keep us in mind! We appreciate your help!
